SOME RESPONSIBILITIES OF CANADIAN CITIZENS

When you become a Canadian you will have certain rights, but you will also have duties.

Be loyal to your new country

Be loyal to the Queen and her representatives

(the Governor General and the Lieutenant Governor)

Obey and understand the laws of Canada

Respect the right of others. The rights of a single Canadian or group cannot interfere with the rights of any other.

Respect private and public property

Educate your children

Care for the national heritage

Defend the freedom of speech

Vote in elections

Help others in the community (volunteer)

Eliminate discrimination and injustice

When you become a Canadian citizen, use your right to elect the government you want. People come to Canada from all over the world and make Canada their home. You will be expected to adapt and respect the values and ideals of Canada but you are free to keep and promote the values and traditions of your homeland.
